Let it be known that Steven Moffat has no interest in bisexual visibility, and anybody who says anything else is clearly wrong. He says so himself.
also, look at how rude I’m being. how dare I question the great steven moffat.
w o w
moffat go sit the fuck down
Oh, and in case anyone’s wondering, the exchange got worse:
I hate to be the Devil’s Advocate, but why must a characters sexuality be forced on the audience? why should they need to be told? Unless there is a legitimate reason for showing River’s bisexuality it isn’t really needed to be mentioned… an example of how sexuality was handled rather poorly was early Jack, he hit on everything and honestly made a fool of himself and became incredibly one-note, until Torchwood came around and expanded his character.
To me, at least feel free to think differently, it would then seem like writers are shoehorning unnecessary and out of place stuff into an episode, and for tv shows that have time restrictions I don’t think that stuff can be forced in.
Not everything needs to be obvious to an audience. it’s cool when you notice subtle bits about characters and stories which reward re-watches and investigations. Examples of this are Evangelion and Trigun, both tell an intricate story, like Doc Who, with complex characters, Like Doc Who, that has subtle aspects that are only found through research/re-watches/being a fan that only tumblr can know.
And if he was to change the writing of River to make it obvious she was bi, might she not then come off as being defined by her sexuality? Sexuality is a tiny part of a person, like age or gender, especially in a world with such intricate characters as the doctor. A properly written character should be a character first and a sexuality second.
But I agree Moffat could of handled your question a bit better…
Just my opinion, feel free to ignore or tell me how wrong I am…
A picture is worth a thousand words.
this pic captures perfectly the dumbassery that is “teaching abstinence”. i don’t see any mofkn condoms!
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Reporter: I have a question to Robert and to Scarlett. Firstly to Robert, throughout Iron Man 1 and 2, Tony Stark started off as a very egotistical character but learns how to fight as a team. And so how did you approach this role, bearing in mind that kind of maturity as a human being when it comes to the Tony Stark character, and did you learn anything throughout the three movies that you made?
And to Scarlett, to get into shape for Black Widow did you have anything special to do in terms of the diet, like did you have to eat any specific food, or that sort of thing?
Scarlett: How come you get the really interesting existential question, and I get the like, “rabbit food” question?
The respect given to you if you’re a man in the entertainment business, and the respect given to you if you’re a woman in the entertainment business: all perfectly summed up in one idiotically thought out line of questioning.
awesome.
I’m going to repeatedly reblog this.
So much hope.
This gave me chills.
